It was the sellers that made the 2nd

Vintage at the Village Hall fair

such an outstanding success!

Taking time and trouble to source such a varied selection

of beautiful and affordable vintage treasures,

displaying them so temptingly,

spending time chatting to buyers and browsers alike,

and promoting the fair with such energy and enthusiasm

over the past few months turned a sunny Monday in May

into a dream come true for the 600-plus Vintage Lovers

who came through the door!

Amongst the outside sellers were Jenny Jones

with THE most enchanting display of gardening wares

Irene from The Loft with painted furniture,

Colin and Joan's Garden Artefacts

Jeffinie and John from La Belle Maison

with fabulous French furniture and furnishings

Claire and Lindsey of Beau Frippery

with a treasure trove of vintage jewellery

and, resplendent in her new colours

proudly promoting the Vintage Tea Parties

Miss Dolly the 1950s caravan!

Inside were Linda Clift and Cecile at Elegance Maison

with a mixture of English and French textiles

Jo Ross at Hesta Nesta with the prettiest and plumpest

quilts and cushions

lovely Lizzy Drake, caught unawares setting up ;)

an exquisitely beautiful display from Lucy Bloom

Lizzie had come straight from the 3-day Shepton Mallet fair

and still had the energy to create a stunning stand!

Sophie and Kirsty at Fading Grace turned their cosy little corner

into a haven of girly gorgeousness

my Ted and Bunny stand was the usual mixture

of quirky finds all fighting for space

in an organised (ish) clutter!

Gill's Random handmade jewellery wasn't quite set-up

Tracey from The Vintage Bothy does a display

like no-one else I know and has a

stunning eye for colour and design

Alex filled a last-minute cancellation and her pretty

stall looked really delightful.

Pamphill Dairy & Farm Shop

I just SO enjoyed organising the November fair in spite of all the hard work!
Being the inaugural event there were a few fraught moments (how many cakes to bake. . .how many flyers to print. . .how many people will come. . .will it snow???)

Preparations for the May fair are in full swing- Spring is such a pretty time and while the Village Hall certainly shone decked with bunting in the cold wintery sunshine, I can't wait to see how it looks with stallholders selling under the front canopy, leaves on the surrounding trees, and the countryside beyond bursting with beauty.

More people visited the Vintage Fair than any other event held at the hall causing a hiccup with parking, which is one problem I didn't forsee!
To ease the situation we're allowed to use the overflow car park in the adjoining Farm Shop, with easy access to the Hall.

Pamphill Dairy, Pamphill Parlour, The Little Blue Barn, Anousta Skin Products and Pamphill Butchers all sell within the farm shop complex and are well worth visiting while you're at the fair!

Kingston Lacy House and Gardens

Pamphill Parish Hall is just 5 minutes drive

from the beautiful National Trust Kingston Lacy House

Although the house is shut on Mondays,

the gardens, National Trust shop and restaurant

are all open and well worth a visit!

I first met Jenny Jones at Shepton Mallet Fleamarket

in October last year when she asked me if I had a vacant stall

for the November Fair.

I was completely booked, but for the May fair this year

we can make better use of the outside space

to accomodate a few more sellers

and so Jenny is having a change from her regular stock

of vintage textiles and furnishing pretties

and bringing a selection of gardening goodies-

just perfect for the fabulous summer

that's on it's way :))

just a quick peep show of the pretty things I bought at Shepton Mallet Fleamarket yesterday, which are destined for the Village Hall Vintage Fair in May.

Useful Things are my best sellers at the moment, and you can see I had that in mind when selecting these new purchases!

Lloyd Loom style sewing box- lovely to paint,

but really rather pretty as it is

1960s ottoman with the most DELICIOUS shabby rose print

quilted vinyl covering!

Large Art Nouveau oak dressing table mirror

which will probably be painted

and a pretty little Edwardian hanging mirror

in a perfect Farrow and Ball off-white

a handworked tapestry and velvet cushion, and

rose pink silk scatter cushions- all feather filled

and an adorable antique fruitwood lampbase with

a 1950s rose print shade.

Now I just have to clean, polish. . .and paint :))

YAY!! next date set for Vintage at the Village Hall Fair. . .

The local paper carried this write-up on Thursday,

it's a bit confusing calling it a Vintage Clothing sale

especially after I sent them explicit details of the event!

Well, after all that excitement it's time to announce

The Giveaway Winner. . .

Sara and Julie who took charge of the kitchen

sold an amazing 183 slices of cake, and the person who

came nearest to that amount is Gill, The Vintage Gardener

with her guess of 150!

Once again I want to say thankyou to everyone for so much

help and support with this fair- I couldn't have done it

without you all!

Only 1 week to go until the doors open for Vintage at the Village Hall in Pamphill, near Wimborne Minster!
The time's simply flown since my first post telling you I'd booked the hall!

In answer to the questions you've asked. . .

The hall will be open for setting-up from 7.30am.

Quite a lot of dealers have asked me about early trade entry. I very much appreciate trade coming to buy, but I feel early entry is not right for this fair. The fair opens to all at 10 a.m

Double stalls have two 6ft tables and as many chairs as you need. There's also room for a card table and clothes rail.
Single stalls have one 6ft table and as many chairs as you need. There's also room for a small card table OR small clothes rail.

If you want to bring items of furniture or something that might not fit on your stall, I'll try my hardest find a space for it SOMEWHERE in the hall. There's a small raised stage which I've kept free for "extras", so if you have room in the car bring it along!

Tables should be covered with cloths that reach to the floor.

As this is a vintage event, all clothing on the rails should be at least pre 1990s

The ladies toilets will probably be used as a changing room, and I'll put a full-length mirror in there

I was originally planning to provide light lunches from the kitchen, but with only a guesstimate of people who might want food, I've decided to stick just to drinks and homemade cakes.

Wanting to get as many tasks out of the way before The Day (only 2 weeks to go!!) I started thinking (as you do) about a colour scheme for my stall that gave a nod towards Christmas, without going overboard on glitz 'n' gold.

Not having set up shop for such a long time, I confess I'm feeling a tad apprehensive about re-creating the "look" that used to flow so effortlessly twice a week on my round of regular fairs.

Rummaging through the linen cupboard for inspiration I found the scrumptous string of polka-dot and shabby floral bunting that I won in the Winnibriggshouse Giveaway earlier this year.

Handmade by Jenny, it even has my name embroidered on it, so how perfect is that. . .and what better colour scheme to use on the stall than red and white!

Liz Drake is a textile addict!

Working mainly in the West Country at Vintage Fashion and Textile Fairs, Liz has a passion for woven and printed Paisley Shawls, quilts, patchwork, lace, embroideries and buttons.

With an eye for all things French she makes regular trips with Linda (who is also selling) to buy linen, lace and trimmings.

Liz is also a mixed media and textile artist, incorporating antique textiles and lace into her work and dying fabrics and threads to use in contemporary quilt making.

Fabulous Frome & Heartfelt Thankyous!

I just wanted to say a HUGE thankyou to Clare and Lizzie for organizing the The Vintage Bazaar in Frome which was a truly amazing place to visit- even without the stunning array of goods for sale on stalls, the atmosphere was enough to make you feel giddy on girly-gorgeousness!
Uncannily, the photo on the flyers really DID capture the feel of the fair!

Thankyou Lizzie; even though you've been so busy with The Bazaar and your many other commitments, you still took time to display
Vintage at the Village Hall advertising on the front desk. . .and "heartfelt thankyous" is what this post is all about.

I've been so touched by all the interest and help promoting my fair and want you to know it's really appreciated. So much has come from people I've never even met!
Stallholders at The Bazaar, and other antique fairs and markets who have taken stacks of flyers
Shopkeepers, Antique Centres, all the workplaces, business premises and community centres who have displayed posters and flyers
Advice and The Voice of Experience from other Fair holders!
My lovely stallholders who have done, are doing and are going to do posts for the fair on their blogs
Our local printer for displaying the poster in his window and photocopying it foc for a lady who enquired about the details!

The Washerwoman

I have the greatest admiration for Lizzie, and her fabulous blog

aptly titled The Washerwoman was one of the reasons that I

began blogging earlier this year.

Her eye for finding an absolutely stunning selection of

Vintage English and French stock is second to none.

Very reasonable prices mean she certainly appeals to both

trade and private buyers alike, which is why she's so successful

selling at Vintage fairs and in The Dairy House at Semley.

Her blog also contains a very useful and concise list

of Vintage fairs in the area.

I'm so grateful for her enthusiasm when I mentioned my

fledgling idea of Vintage at the Village Hall

and really look forward to seeing the gorgeously girly items

she'll be bringing to sell on the day!

Lizzie is also holding her own vintage fair in

Frome, Somerset on Saturday October 30th.

It looks really good and I'll DEFINITELY be visiting!

My task next week is to select the cakes for the Village Hall kitchen.
I've decided definitely on lavender muffins which I baked for Shirley's wedding cake-stack, and also a good old-fashioned boiled fruitcake, but if you have a favourite tried-and-tested cake recipe, that's easy to bake in a large quantity and will freeze or store well for a few weeks, please send me any other ideas you think will fit the bill.

For some strange reason, Ted has expressed rather a lot of interest in this aspect of the fair and says all suggestions will need to be thoroughly tested. . .;-0)

Tracey, who has just started Wild Rose Vintage in Sturminster Newton has booked at stall; at the moment she sells on Etsy.

Tracey from The Vintage Bothy (her lovely display is shown on the left) is coming down to sell at the Bridport Rag on Saturday 27th November, Vintage & Handmade at Chipping Sodbury on Sunday 28th and then back down to Vintage at the Village Hall in Dorset on Monday.
That's what I call dedication!!

As I mentioned in the last post, Lucy Bloom is having a stall, and I must show you a pic again of the gorgeously girly and colourful items she sells. . .

All of the stalls feel like they're going to sit well together; I have a picture of it in my mind and can't wait to see my vision in real life!

Well, its been a really good few days!

The hall is larger than I remembered,

meaning we can comfortably accommodate more sellers

than I had originally thought!

In order to make it the best value-for-money possible

each stand will be approx 4 metres, with chairs + 2 x 6ft tables provided

and enough room for extra tables/clothes rails/small furniture

and will cost £28 including free drinks (alas non-alcoholic!)

of very wearable handmade vintage-inspired jewellery

(she has no blog at present but watch this space!)

eek! The village hall is booked, and my vintage fair is really going to happen!
I've been dreaming of doing this for so long and now everything is starting to fall into place :)

Lizzie (The Washerwoman) from The Dairy House is having a stand with her beautiful textiles and decorative treasures, Shirley from Simply-Chateau is coming from France with a car load of gorgeous vintage French delights, and of course I'll be selling my quirky mix of vintage textiles, fashions and fleamarket finds, unique to ted and bunny!

Tomorrow I'm going to to measure up and work out just how many more sellers will comfortably fit in, and then I'd better start asking if they'd care to come and join us. Fingers crossed!
